Love is for other people.

That's Tag Stetson's opinion anyway. Twenty five, rigorously single and very gay he's thrown himself into private work as an electrical engineer at the expense of everything else. He has no friends, no family, not even a cat to call his own. Another man might be lonely, but Tag is working at the very edge of his field and entirely consumed by his work.

It is that work that leads him to cross paths with Nicholas McKenna, CEO of MCK and one of the most powerful men in the industry. Tag hopes to sell his latest invention to MCK and hopefully make a tidy profit, but he gets far more than he bargained for when he pitches his product.

Older, wiser, handsome with a little gray around the edges, Nicholas has the experience to see not only the value of Tag's invention, but its inventor too. Nicholas is a man used to claiming all that he desires, and getting everything he wants, but Tag's unexpectedly strong independent streak throws a spanner in the works.

What ensues is a pursuit both professional and personal as Nicholas seeks to make Tag his own – whether Tag likes it or not.

I finished this book last night and I am still unsure about what I really think.

The storyline with Tag and Nicholas was great. The concept in which the author headed was neat. But it just didn't deliver.

Maybe if the book had been longer and we could have seen more of Tag and Nicholas's view and how and why they feel certain points it would have flowed better. But conflict to quick forgiveness without the emotion came up lacking.

I enjoy BDSM books especially between MM characters but the scenes fell flat to me and didn't always make sense.

For the price it might be worth giving it a try but I will not be rereading this one.

Controlling Interest edition by Camden Tate Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

First it is Hard Blue Line (Laying Down The Law) and now this one. Camden Tate has become an auto-buy for me. So far her two stories are novellas but complete and effective. Both have dom/sub flavor involving an older Alpha hunk and a younger sub who needs direction in his life. The dom/sub dynamics is more forecful in Controlling Interest, not in the sex but in this couple's interaction. The plot may be a bit incredible but I thought it is original and kind of refreshing. Nicholas is really an overwhelming personality. Coupled with being filthy rich Nicholas is 100% Alpha Dom (my type of dom in this genre). But our IT genius, Tag, is no damsel-in-distress. He is a handful as he refuses to give in to Nicholas' control. I enjoy their dom/sub dynamics in a unique setting and I though Nicholas' love for Tag is convincing in the end. Not the usual story line, which makes this one sticks.
The book starts out with Tag Stetson, a genius electrical engineer, presenting one of his inventions to Nicholas McKenna, in hopes of selling the gadget to fund his other projects. Tag lives alone, works out of his garage, and says he's just fine that way. It's disappointing that we never learn anything of Tag's childhood, parents, siblings, etc. along the way. There's a brief mention of college, and that Tag got his shot at his pitch to McKenna through a former schoolmate, but Tag really doesn't have any friends, and we're never given any information about why Tag thinks this is okay and that he's happier that way.
At this first meeting, Nicholas decides that he wants Tag's invention, he wants Tag to work for his company, MCK, AND that he just plain wants Tag. While wining and dining Tag, we learn that Nicholas married young while still struggling with his sexual identity, and that he has a teenage daughter (though we never actually see her, or hear about her again), and that's the most personal we get about Nicholas. Never learn his favorite foods, musical preferences, hobbies - nothing. Though the same lack of character development is true of Tag also.

When Nicholas fails to convince Tag to come work for him, he resorts to truly unscrupulous means to get and keep Tag. And this was where my comfort with the story took a nosedive. Nicholas was willing to steal and lie to get what he wanted, and it didn't trouble him a bit. He laughs at Tag's protests. And to be fair, Tag whined and stomped his foot like a petulant child, rather than being truly angry and afraid of his tormentor. Nicholas's behavior bordered on obsessed psychopath.

In the end, Tag grows up a little, and he forces Nicholas to back down. The two find some common ground, and we get a HEA. But I was left feeling a little dirty for it all. Nicholas was TOO domineering, to the point of not caring how Tag felt about nearly everything. There was too little time of the characters being equal and respecting each other to truly feel they loved one another. And given how relatively short the story was - about 1500 locations - there was plenty of room for character development.
All that being said, there was some very good sexual tension between the two characters, and watching them struggle really brought that out. There were a couple scenes that aren't exactly sexual, but ARE fairly non-consensual, and are really pretty hot. There's something to be said for the thrill of the chase.
This storyline would probably have been better as a sci-fi type of book. When I got my mind going in that direction I enjoyed it but set in the normal world it's a reach.

The writing was cute but I couldn't relate to the characters at all but that's just me.

I hate leaving totally negative reviews but this book is really, really bad. The premise is ridiculous / totally unrealistic which normally doesn't put me off but in this case it is nothing more than an incredibly clunky plot device to create a power imbalance between the two men. Then the "d/s"/romance elements. Really? Nicholas walks in, spanks Tag and then he declares his love. Voila, one romantic d/s relationship. I pretty much make myself finish any book I start but this ended up being too much of a chore.
